Imran Khan is the 22nd who holds the premier office of Pakistan in August 2018. He has 22 years of hard work behind his success story in politics.
Khan was a cricket player before entering into politics. He is among the most followed leaders in the world. Imran Khan was the second most searched leader on Google during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Session 2019. Early Life and Family
The current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi, was born on 5 October 1952 in Lahore. Imran is the only son of his parents. He belongs to a Pakhtoon family. Ikramullah Khan Niazi was his father, and he served as a civil engineer. Shaukat Khanam was the mother of Imran Khan in the name of whom he built an cancer hospital. Imran Khan is the only brother of four sisters. Their names are Uzma Khanum, Aleema Khanum, Rani Khanum, and Rubina Khanum. He has always been a quiet and shy person all his life.
Education
Imran Khan attended the Aitchison College, Lahore. He went to Royal Grammar School in Worcester, and entered to Keble College, Oxford, London and studied Economics, Politics, and Philosophy in graduation.
Cricket Career
Imran Khan started cricket at a very young age of 16 in 1968. He played first-class cricket for various teams at Lahore from 1968 to 1971. Khan also played county cricket from 1971 to 1976 at Worcester during his academic career. In 1973, he joined the Blue Cricket Team at the University of Oxford and played for them until 1975. He also played on behalf of various brands at that time, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Dawood Industries, and Sussex County Cricket Club. Khan represented Pakistan in a test match at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in 1971. It was his first international match. His first One Day International (ODI) was also against England at Trent Bridge Ground in 1974. He formally joined the National Cricket Team of Pakistan team on returning to the country in 1976 after completing his graduation from Oxford. Later, he represented Pakistan in many cricket series. Khan has the honor of introducing the reverse bowling technique to the cricket world and taught it to Waqar Yunis and Waseem Akram. It is all because of him that Pakistan’s name is credible in reverse bowling techniques. Imran Khan became the captain of the Pakistani Cricket team in 1982 and gave us the gift in the form of the World Cup in 1992. After winning, he announced retirement from cricket. He had his place as an allrounder in the team.
Imran Khan scored 3,709 runs in 151 innings of ODIs. He recorded 3,807 runs in 126 test match innings. Imran has a record of taking 182 wickets in 153 ODI matches and 362 wickets in 142 test matches in bowling career. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm pace bowler at the start then he managed to be right-arm fast bowler for the Pakistani cricket team.
Political Career
Many political parties offered him to join during his cricket career, but Imran Khan always refused. General Zia ul Haq and Nawaz sharif invited him to join PML, but he declined their offers. After retiring from cricket, Imran Khan took an interest in politics in 1994, which resulted in establishing his party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf in 1996. He participated in the 1997 General Election of Pakistan from the two constituencies, NA-94 Lahore and NA-53 Mianwali, but lost on both seats. Later, he participated in General Elections of 2002 and elected at Mianwali constituency and supported Musharraf in the 2002 referendum. He has also been a member of standing committees on public accounts and Kashmir. Imran Khan resigned from the parliament in October 2007 to join All Parties Democratic Movement and protest against General Musharraf for being contesting the presidential election without leaving as army chief. He was under house arrest in November 2007 when Musharraf declared an emergency in the country. After that, Khan disappeared and eventually came in 2011. He gave a thrilling address to his supporters in Lahore as he thinks that government policies are not doing the right thing for a common man and exploiting the people. PTI chairman gave the name of Tsunami to his supporters. After that, he made meetings and tours around the country, Pakistan, and awakened the political consciousness of the people of the country. In the General elections 2013, PTI won 30 seats and became the third-largest political party of the country, and PTI governed KPK. Party was in the opposition in the Punjab and Sindh Assembly. In the General Elections of 2018, Khan’s party swept all other parties and won the elections. Party nominated Imran Khan for the premiership, and he took the oath on 18 August 2018.
Wives and Kids
Imran khan wedded to Jamaima Goldsmith on 16 May 1995 in Paris. They have two sons, Sulaiman Isa Khan and Qasim Khan. Jamaima converted to Islam before marriage. The couple was happily married, but they parted their ways in 2004 after 9 years of companionship. It is said that Jamaima can not adjust to life in Pakistan.
Khan wedded to a British Pakistani journalist, Reham Khan, in January 2005. They had a secret Nikkah ceremony and announced. But unfortunately, they could not do it and filed for divorce in October 2015.
On 18 February 2018, an official statement from the PTI office issued, which confirmed that Imran Khan is married to Bushra Manika, and they reside in Bani Gala farmhouse.
